Dyno At Doc's

What Is A Dyno (Dynomometer)?

A dynamometer or "dyno" for short, is a device for simultaneously measuring the torque and rotational speed (RPM) of an engine, motor or other rotating prime mover so that its instantaneous power may be calculated, and usually displayed by the dynamometer itself as kW or bhp.

In addition to being used to determine the torque or power characteristics of a machine under test, dynamometers are employed in a number of other roles. In standard emissions testing cycles such as those defined by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, dynamometers are used to provide simulated road loading of either the engine (using an engine dynamometer) or full powertrain (using a chassis dynamometer). Beyond simple power and torque measurements, dynamometers can be used as part of a testbed for a variety of engine development activities, such as the calibration of engine management controllers, detailed investigations into combustion behavior, and tribology.

What Equipment Does Doc's Use?

Our shop is equipped with a Dynojet 250i Dyno with the eddy current load absorption unit. Our dyno booth is indoors as a permanent fixture and tool for the Service Department. We are running the latest software suite from Dynojet called Power Core with WinPep 8 and DynoWare RT. We are capable of tuning carburated Harley-Davidsons, and a wide variety of fuel injection Harley-Davidson tuners including: Power Vision, Power Commander USB, Power Commander V USB, all Harley-Davidson Tuners with USB interface, TTS Master Tune, Fuel Pak 3, and several others. Please Call for info or questions on other tuning devices not listed here. We have the latest Dual Band Air Fuel sampling system available so we are able to accurately tune an extremely wide variety of vehicle and motor setups.

Who Runs The Dyno at Doc's? Our Dyno Operators are also certified Master Technicians. We are certified by Harley-Davidson for Street Tuner, Super Tuner, and Race Tuner USB as well as by Dynojet for Power Vision and Power Commander Tuning.
